# Import Claude dashboards as Holistics data apps > Turn a dashboard you built in Claude on Holistics data into a data app with live, governed data. :::info Under development Importing Claude dashboards is under development. Details on this page may change before launch. ::: ## Overview Prototype a dashboard in Claude on your Holistics data, then import it into Holistics as a [data app](/docs/data-apps) that you can keep iterating on. The app keeps the dashboard's layout, styles, and charts, and runs live queries with each viewer's permissions, so you can share it with your team. :::info What you can import Only Claude **dashboards** (the artifacts that load data from connectors and refresh when opened) can be imported. Plain HTML artifacts with numbers written into the page aren't supported. If you need them, [contact us](https://www.holistics.io/contact-us/). ::: ## Before you start You'll need: - The [Holistics MCP server](/docs/ai/mcp-server/claude) connected in Claude, using the **Reporting** connection URL. - The `holistics-reporting` plugin [installed in Claude](/docs/ai/mcp-server/claude#step-4-install-holistics-skills). It gives Claude the instructions for converting a dashboard. - Permission to create data apps in Holistics (Admin or Analyst). ## Import a dashboard To import, you ask Claude to export the dashboard to Holistics: 1. Open the Claude chat where you built the dashboard. 2. Ask Claude to export the dashboard, for example: *"Export this dashboard to Holistics as a data app."* 3. Claude converts the dashboard, saves it to Holistics, and replies with the app's link and a summary of what carried over and what didn't. 4. Open the app in Holistics and review anything the summary flagged before sharing. ## What carries over When you import a dashboard, Holistics maps Claude's components to native Data app features. Here is what carries over and how it is handled: | From the Claude dashboard | In the data app | | --- | --- | | Data from Holistics | Live queries that run as the viewer | | Filters and their default values | App filters with the same defaults | | Layout, styles, and custom charts | Kept as they are | | Static data, like files uploaded to the chat | Your choice: copied into the app, or replaced with a Holistics dataset | If you copy static data into the app, it won't refresh, and every viewer sees all of it, since permissions don't apply. ## Things to know - **The app and the Claude dashboard are separate.** Changes to one don't affect the other, and importing again creates a new app. To change an imported app, edit it in Holistics. - **The app may not match exactly.** Converting a dashboard into a data app can change some details, and two imports of the same dashboard may differ slightly. Review the app and Claude's summary before sharing.
