Introduction​

Holistics AI is your thought partner for self-service analytics. Instead of writing code, dragging and dropping fields, or waiting for an analyst, you can simply chat with your data using natural language to explore insights and build visualizations.

Built on top of our governed semantic layer and composable query language, Holistics AI is designed to help teams explore data through conversation while staying grounded in trusted, curated datasets.

Key capabilities​

Here’s a quick look at how it works in action.

Explore Data (Basic)​

Basic mode gives you a fast, code-free way to build visualizations.

Just type your question and let Holistics AI pick the existing fields without needing to drag and drop components or write a single line of SQL.

Explore Data (Thinking)​

Advanced analysis for complex questions that require multi-step logic Ideal when you need period comparisons, calculations, or deeper analysis:

  • How do this month's numbers compare to last month? (Period Comparison)
  • What's the percent of total by category? (Percent of Total)
  • Can I track cumulative sign-ups over time? (Cumulative Totals)
  • What are our top 5 performing stores by revenue? (Top/Bottom N)

This mode thinks step-by-step, dynamically building the logic needed to answer complex queries. Responses may take a few extra seconds, but that's the tradeoff for smarter, more capable answers.

Users can see how it breaks down a question step by step, revealing the logic behind the insights. This transparency builds trust and ensures users always understand how their data-driven decisions are formed.

Search docs​

Search Docs lets you quickly search and browse documentation without leaving Holistics, so you don’t have to hunt through shared folders or ask your team for links.

How to use​

Getting access​

Holistics AI is currently in alpha. If you're interested in trying it out:

  • Join the waitlist
  • We'll contact you when access becomes available
  • Your organization admin can enable/disable Holistics AI in workspace settings

Basic workflow​

Start with your question​

You can start with Explore data (with thinking) and can try straightforward questions:

  • Show me revenue by product category

Slice & dice with follow-up questions​

Once you have initial results, you can ask follow-up questions right in the same conversation thread:

  • Break down by country and city
  • Show me the trend of average order value over the last year
  • Compare the average order value between different categories
  • List the top 5 products by revenue
  • Compare the number of orders placed in this quarter vs the last quarter

Work with AI to provide more context​

Holistics AI may occasionally miss the mark. That’s expected. By asking follow-up questions or offering clarifying input, you help guide the tool to better understand your context and intent - making sure it works as a helpful sidekick instead of some too-good-to-be-true know-it-all.

Refine and reuse metrics generated by AI with GUI​

Every operation is visible and editable. If the answer isn’t what you need, tweak the step in the GUI without to start over. Analysts can refine metrics and promote them for reuse in future analysis.

A few things to know​

  • Holistics AI uses the OpenAI API to help generate insights.
  • Holistics AI ensures a secure and transparent approach to data processing.
    • When you use Search Docs, it doesn't access your data at all.
    • When using Explore Data, it only looks at metadata, like your modeling schema, labels, descriptions, and formulae, not your raw data.
  • All processing follows OpenAI’s usage policies. If you’re curious, you can check out their Privacy Policy here.
  • As this is still an early (alpha) release, there may be times when we need to temporarily pause the AI feature for updates or maintenance.
  • If needed, organization admins can turn off Holistics AI at any time in your workspace settings.
